Play Music Via Bluetooth - And Make Your Rolly Dance! No Motion Editor Needed!

Ok, I met with the folks from Sony's awesome Rolly team at CES today!

Here's how to get your Rolly to play music via Bluetooth and dance to it! And yes, an English Motion Editor is coming, but for now you can use this awesome feature!

    First, set up your system:

In Windows Vista on a Bluetooth-enabled PC:

    1. Put your Rolly into Bluetooth mode.
    2. Hold the center button down for 10 seconds, or until the button's lights start flashing quickly.
    3. Open up the Bluetooth Control Panel in Vista.
    4. Click the "Add..." button to add a device.
    5. In the list of devices, select the SEP BT-10, which is the Rolly's model number.
    6. In the passkey options, select to enter your own key, and enter "0000", without the quotes.
    7. Windows will configure the Rolly as "Personal Headphones".
    8. You're ready to go!

In Mac OS X (I'm doing this one from memory, so my apologies if I'm missing a step):

    1. Open the Bluetooth menu and select "Add a device..."
    2. Select the SEP BT-10 from the list of devices.
    3. Set the passkey options to the "like a mouse" option.
    4. You're done.

Now, to play music using the Rolly:

    1. Put the Rolly in Bluetooth mode. Both Windows and Mac OS should automatically recognize it and start using it.
    2. If the Mac doesn't start using it automatically, select the SEP BT-10 from the Bluetooth menu in the menu bar and select "Use Personal Headphones"

To Make the Rolly Dance to the Music:

    1. Start playing the music and simply double-tap the top button, just like regular music-playing mode.

Awesome! I never found out how to pair Rolly with an other device...

This works also with your Mobile Phone...which is very cool!

Now hurry up with that motion editing software, Sony!

Hi! I've tried but don't work..! I use a Apple Macintosh, I've paried the rolly with my mac and use it like HEADPHONES... It play the music, but don't dance. It's a problem of the mac? I listen my music with iTunes software... or it's a problem of my rolly??? Thanks! Mario

Once the music starts playing, press the button on the Rolly twice to make it dance. Press it twice again to make it stop dancing.

If you re-read my tutorial, I have instructions on how to mute the music and so forth while it plays and dances.

    I hope that helps!

Lawrence - hi, what version of MAC OS are you using? You will need to (I think) upgrade to Leopard to get the bluetooth streaming to work.

     Hi everyone

Just bought my Black sleek rolly yesterday here in Toronto. Very pleased with it.

I have paired it successfully using bluetooth/Vista Home Premium. Button on rolly is held down, pairing complete and everything seems a go. My question is.......should the rolly be able to play the music once a connection is established or just my laptop plays the music?  At this point, when it is connected ( both arms/ears extended) and the above switch is green....all the rolly does is a) when I press the top button it mutes the music on my laptop and b) double tapping it puts rolly into motion.  Is this the way, the rolly bluetooth  option works.....only plays on the laptop but does not "stream" to rolly?

     A little confused

Whenever your Rolly is connected via Bluetooth it should automatically play any music from your PC. If not, check your sound settings and make sure the Rolly is an "output device".

If that doesn't help, lemme know and I'll research it some more :)

    Good luck!

BTW... by "music" I meant "sound"... Any sound coming from your computer should play over the Rolly's Bluetooth connection.

When paired with your computer, your Rolly is seen as a set of Bluetooth speakers.

Did you follow the instructions in my tutorial, or are you just responding to the thread? :)

Also, what version of MacOS are you running?

     Hey Auri

I'm not running mac - vista home premium as stated in my post. Thanks for the reply. I found what I missed and that was making sure under my playback devices that the "2 speaker" rolly was selected.  It now works flawlessly :)

    Cheers
